Key Aspects
of our Educational Concept

Bilingual Education

Language balance

At our secondary school, German and English are taught on an equal footing - 50% of the subjects are taught in German and the other 50% in English.

Bilingual Education

Immersion method

Immersion method is a holistic approach that enables students to immerse themselves in the language with all their senses. Our English-speaking teachers speak English consistently and supplement what they say with facial expressions, gestures, pictures and symbols. Through this natural language acquisition, students develop an intuitive feel for the language, expand their vocabulary in a playful way and actively use English from the very beginning. In this way, they learn the language faster, more easily and more intensively - almost in the same way as they learned their mother tongue.

Bilingual Education

Language sequence and linguistic diversity

Our students experience bilingual learning in German and English every day. From Year 7, they also take Spanish as a foreign language, and in Year 9, French can be added as an elective. This language concept fosters multilingualism and prepares students confidently for an international future.

Individual Support

Diverse programme

We offer a varied and individualized programme to provide optimal support for learning processes - from homework clubs to the ‚Digitale Drehtür' model for gifted students and exciting competitions. This offer is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular clubs in which individual interests can be explored in depth and talents developed. We also support our students with comprehensive career and study guidance to prepare them as well as possible for their future after the Abitur and to help them achieve their personal goals.

Individual Support

Self-organized learning

Our students are encouraged to engage independently with overarching topics through excursions, museum visits, expert interviews and creative work. They learn to look at topics from different perspectives and design presentations.

Teamwork is particularly important to us, as it promotes social behaviour, responsibility and self-organization. Teamwork is actively encouraged in all subjects and also in sport in order to motivate students to work together and inspire each other.

Individual Support

Project-based learning and problem-oriented work

At our secondary school, we focus on project-based learning and problem-oriented work in order to actively involve our students in their learning process. Through practical projects and real-life problems, they develop critical thinking and creativity. Instead of just acquiring theoretical knowledge, they apply it directly, question connections and develop independent solutions. This approach therefore promotes sustainable learning.

Media Education

Digital equipment

Our classrooms are all equipped with interactive smartboards that can be written on and provide access to the internet. Every student also has access to a laptop for writing texts, researching, calculating and creating presentations. These media not only enrich the learning process, but also promote media skills. Our students really enjoy learning on the computer.

Media Education

Digital classes

All students are equipped with a Phorms laptop when they start secondary school in Year 7.

The young people then have the opportunity to work with the device in a variety of ways both at school and at home. In addition to digital work, however, analogue working methods are still practiced in the classroom. In the coming school year, we will continue to focus on a good mix in order to ensure the acquisition of media literacy skills, as well as language learning and the skills we are aiming for in the individual subjects.

Graduation

Abitur

Our entire campus is state-recognised, meaning that students at our secondary school can obtain the general higher education entrance qualification through the bilingual Abitur. They also receive a certificate detailing which subjects have been taught in German and which in English over the years - including the respective number of lessons. In addition to the Abitur, this certificate is a valuable addition for international study and career prospects.

Financial statements

Cambridge Certificate

In addition to the Abitur, we offer students in the upper grades the opportunity to take the Cambridge Advanced English Certificate (CAE) exam. This exam determines the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) within the A1-C2 levels. Our students complete these examinations at native speaker level, with level C.

Important questions
about our bilingual secondary school

  • Do the students at your school take the Berlin Abitur?

Yes, at our school, students acquire the state Berlin Abitur - supplemented by a bilingual component in those subjects where this is possible.

  • Do you follow the Berlin curriculum?

Yes, we follow the Berlin curriculum. In our English-language subjects in particular, we use extended content to offer our students a deeper and broader education.

  • Is it possible to join at a later date?

Yes, lateral entry is generally possible as long as your English language skills are at B2 or C1 level. Especially after a stay in an English-speaking country, it is advisable to start in year 10 or 11.

  • Is it possible to transfer from a non-bilingual primary school to your bilingual secondary school?

Yes, it is possible. We provide individual support to our students, and by Year 8 there are usually hardly any differences in their level of achievement.

We are happy to help you.

Do you have questions about our school or the administration process? We will be delighted to assist you with any queries.
